BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Millsaps women's basketball team battled, but came up short to a strong No. 5 Trinity (Texas) team, 80-58 inside the Bill Battle Coliseum on Saturday.
Sophomore
Haley Franklin had an all-around strong game with 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Junior
Helena Roe was also a force on both ends of the court with seven points and eight rebounds.
The Majors were stronger in the paint, holding a 34-26 advantage and outrebounded the Tigers 47-35. Trinity used a 27-16 edge on points-off turnovers after forcing Millsaps into 29 giveaways.
Facing a 17-8 deficit early in the first quarter, the Majors used a 6-0 run cut into the Tiger lead, punctuated by a
Whitney Novak jumper.
Millsaps then shrunk the deficit to 34-26 heading into halftime on the strength of back-to-back
Devan Caldwell layups right before intermission.
Trinity followed with a 29-19 scoring edge in the third quarter to begin pulling away and eventually secure an 80-58 win.
