Tezzo, JSU’s Shedeur Sanders only Two to Earn Honor for Second Consecutive

JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps football senior receiver Moïse Tezzo was on the radar of many across the Magnolia State entering this season and he delivered by again being nominated for the prestigious 2022 C Spire Conerly Trophy, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame announced on Monday.

Tezzo and JSU's Shedeur Sanders are the only two of 10 student-athletes to be recognized as their team's nominees for the second consecutive season.

The Houston, Texas native finished the season as a dynamic receiver and kick returner averaging 103.2 yards per contest. He totaled 929 all-purpose yards, including 609 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 43 catches in nine games after he earned a spot to the 2022 C Spire Conerly Trophy Preseason Watch List.

He stands second in the Southern Athletic Association in receptions, fourth in receiving yards, third in receiving touchdowns, and third in receiving yards per game at 67.7.

The Business Administration major added 14 yards on the ground and a rushing score. He was also a feared returner, tallying 234 yards on kickoffs and 72 yards off of punts. Tezzo ranks fifth in the conference at 21.3 kickoff-return yards per game and eighth in yardage.

Each college and university in the state with a football program selects one player who they feel best represents their team as the Most Outstanding Player to be nominated for the prestigious award. This year's winner will become the 27th recipient since the program started in 1996. Named in honor of Ole Miss and NFL star Charlie Conerly, the award is voted on by a panel of media and NFL scouts who cover college football in the state.

This award has come to represent the Mississippi version of the Heisman Trophy. It is highly coveted and respected throughout the country. Previous winners of the C Spire Conerly Trophy have gone on to successful NFL careers including Eli Manning, Jerious Norwood, Dak Prescott, and Evan Engram. Two former recipients, Deuce McAllister and Patrick Willis, have been enshrined in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.

The 2022 C Spire Conerly winner will be announced during a presentation at the Country Club of Jackson on November 29th featuring special guest host and CBS football analyst, Charles Davis. The evening will also include the announcement of the Kent Hull Trophy presented by Entergy which goes to the top Offensive Lineman of the Year. Tickets for the event are available at the Hall of Fame office or online at www.msfame.com. Last year's recipient was Matt Corral of Ole Miss and other winners include Elijah Moore, Jeffrey Simmons, A.J. Brown, Evan Engram, Dak Prescott, Patrick Willis, Eli Manning, and Deuce McAllister.

A member of the 2021 All-SAA First Team Offense, Tezzo and his teammates will await the announcement of the 2022 All-Conference Football Team in the days ahead.
