– The Millsaps women's basketball team secured a thrilling, 65-63 come-from-behind victory over Austin College to help head coach
Justin LeBlanc earn his 100th career victory inside the Hangar Dome on Saturday.
LeBlanc, in his seventh season with Millsaps and eighth overall, now owns a 100-84 career mark and 91-67 record with the college.
The win doubled as the ninth consecutive triumph for Millsaps (10-2), matching the streak last set during the 2015-16 campaign.
Sophomore guard
Haley Franklin posted another brilliant performance with 31 points, six rebounds and four assists to go along with a pair of steals. It was the Baton Rouge, La., native's third 30-plus-point game of the young season.
Senior forward
Devan Caldwell (11 points, four rebounds, three steals) was also crucial in the second half comeback bid.
Saturday's matchup featured nine lead changes and eight ties. Millsaps used a 21-14 turnover advantage to keep the team in the game down the stretch and were able to withstand a 13-0 Austin College run in the second quarter.
Millsaps trailed 35-31 after the Kangaroos shot 5-of-7 from three-point range in the second stanza.
A back-and-forth third quarter was highlighted by a nifty behind-the-back pass from Franklin to sophomore
Whitney Novak, who provided the layup finish giving the Majors a 45-43 advantage.
Austin College would rally and claim a 54-47 lead entering the fourth quarter. The Majors would begin to press the Kangaroos and force 12 turnovers over the final 10 minutes to chip away at the deficit.
Caldwell would tally five points midway through the frame as part of a 9-0 burst to put Millsaps in front, 57-56 with 6:26 remaining.
The teams would play sound defense down the stretch with the game knotted up at 60-60 with 2:31 to play. Novak would knock down a crucial free throw to give the Majors a crucial 61-60 edge with 34 seconds to go.
Austin College would be forced into another turnover before Caldwell would sink two more critical free throws with 11 seconds left. Franklin added two more points from the line as the Kangaroos tallied a three-pointer at the buzzer for the final, 65-63 Millsaps victory.
