SHREVEPORT, La. – The Millsaps men's basketball team were bested, 65-54 in a non-conference matchup at Centenary College in the Gold Dome on Tuesday.
Senior guard
Doug Watson tallied 15 points, junior center
Aaron Ursin recorded 10 points and seven rebounds, while freshman forward
Rodney Phillips Jr. added seven points and five rebounds.
Millsaps (1-7) looked poised for a big day after Watson sank a three-pointer to begin the game, which spring boarded a 10-0 start.
Centenary (7-2) then posted an 18-2 flurry to take an 18-12 advantage with seven minutes to play in the half. The Majors found their way back into the fight to only trail 25-24 at intermission.
Junior
TJ Hogan scored a trey to end the half and scored the Majors' first basket in the second following a steal and fast-break layup. The Gents then methodically built a 16-point cushion and led 59-43 with 7:18 remaining.
Undaunted, Millsaps clawed back to make it a five-point deficit with one minute to play. Needing to foul, Centenary would score the final six points from the free-throw line to escape with a 65-54 win.
The Majors will next travel to Tacoma, Wash. and face the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Dec. 7, beginning play at 4:00 p.m. CT. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com.
