MEMPHIS – The Millsaps women's basketball team put up a valiant fight but fell to conference-leading Rhodes College, 81-53 in the Mallory Gymnasium on Friday.

Juniors Briasha King (nine points), Elecia Lartigue (eight points, five rebounds) and sophomore Helena Roe (eight points, five rebounds) led the Majors in scoring.

Millsaps (9-13, 4-7 SAA) outshot Rhodes (18-2, 10-0 SAA) from the field (38.2 to 34.8 percent). However, the Lynx finished 14-34 from three-point range and finished 19-of-29 at the free throw line.

Roe hit a three to give the Majors a 3-2 lead in the opening minutes, but that was the last lead the Majors would hold. Rhodes would surge ahead, but Roe would answer with another trey cutting the deficit to 16-14 with just under two minutes to play in the first.

The Lynx would respond with a 16-0 burst and lead 30-14 at the 7:26 mark of the second quarter. King would then be responsible for six of the final eight points of the half, with Rhodes claiming 42-27 advantage at intermission.

Lartigue would sink another three-point shot to bring the Majors within 13 at 43-30 with 8:37 to play in the third. Rhodes would cruise from there with more timely long-range makes of their own to claim an 81-53 win.
