Chambers McGillberry’s One-Hit, Eight Strikeout Gem Stymies Millikin on Saturday

Majors Offense and Pitchers Dominate in 9-0 Win on Day Two of the Millsaps Baseball Classic

JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps baseball sophomore pitcher Chambers McGilberry was dynamic in a 9-0 Majors triumph of Millikin University at Twenty Field on Saturday.

McGillberry yielded only one hit and struck out eight batters in 7.0 IP. Senior Jackson Russo added two innings of scoreless effort to help shutout the Big Blue.

Millsaps (3-2) was powered by freshman centerfielder Bradley Pelle, who tallied three hits and scored two runs. Austin Arceneaux also had a superb day at the plate with two hits and two RBIs. Sam Pitre and Mark Petkovsek Jr. added two hits each as the Majors totals 14 base knocks as a team.

Both teams went scoreless through three innings. Petkovsek initiated a special fourth inning with a defensive gem when he made a diving catch in right field. Carrying the momentum from his great defensive play, Petkovsek led off the fourth with a ground-rule double to left field.

After Pelle advanced him to third base with a left line single, Case Page brought Petkovsek home with an infield hit for the first score of the game. With runners on first and second base, an RBI double from Arceneaux helped Pelle race across home plate.

Continuing the hot hitting, David Abadessa produced an RBI single up the middle to bring Page around the bases. Later in the inning, Chris Hart hit a sac fly to score Abadessa for a 5-0 advantage heading into the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the sixth inning with Little on third, Petkovsek assisted him to home with a sac fly to add insurance for a 6-0 lead and then Avery Brock scored on a wild pitch. An RBI-single from Arceneaux rounded Pelle around the bases to make it an 8-0 game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Chilton blasted a 325-foot homer to left field for the final score of the game as the Majors dominated 9-0.
