Bryan Sullivan Qualifies for NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

Jackson, Miss. Product to Compete in Three Events in Indianapolis, March 16-18

INDIANAPOLIS – An outstanding season will continue for Millsaps men's swimming and diving student-athlete Bryan Sullivan as he was selected to compete in the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Committee revealed on Wednesday.

Sullivan becomes the first member of the Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving program to qualify for nationals, which both are currently in their third season of existence. The championships will take place inside IUPUI's IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, March 16-19.

Sullivan's time of 20.25 in the 50-yard freestyle was fast enough to qualify him for the national championships. Being invited as a top-16 finisher in the event, he will also get to compete in up to three events total during the week of competition.

He will race in the 50 free on Wednesday, March 16, the 100 fly on Thursday and the 100 back on Friday. Preliminary heats for the first event will begin at 9 a.m. CT each day, with finals slated for a 5 p.m. CT start.

This will be the second occasion Sullivan has posted a qualifying time for a national meet. A four-year swimmer at Drury University, he qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division II Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. He was unable to compete because Drury reached a cap for the number of student-athletes able to compete in the meet.

The Jackson, Miss., native was named the SAA Men's Swimmer of the Year on Feb. 20 after claiming three total conference titles in the 50 free, 100 fly and 100 back. Also named to the All-SAA First Team, he set two conference meet records during the prelims.

Additionally, he set four open conference records during the regular season in the same three events as well as the 100 IM. His time of 49.83 set at conference in the 100 IM ranks first for NCAA Division III. The 100 IM is not competed in officially at the conference or national meet.

The Neuroscience major also holds nine individual school records and is a member of three record-breaking relay records.

Franklin College and the Indiana Sports Corp will serve as hosts.  A total of 579 participants (526 swimmers and 53 divers) will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the swimming portion of the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. The complete list of all swimmers competing in the championships is available here.

NCAA.com will video stream all sessions Wednesday through Saturday of the championships.
