Softball Falls in Sunday Rematches

Majors Return Home for Doubleheader against Hanover on Wednesday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Millsaps softball team was bested in a pair of games in Montgomery, Ala. on Sunday. The Majors fell to No. 12 Mt. Saint Joseph, 3-0 and were defeated by Huntingdon, 7-0 at the Samford Softball Complex.

Game One: L, 3-0

The Majors were shut down in the first game by Mt. Saint Joseph pitcher Kamryn McCool. McCool struck out 15 batters. Senior Emily Cook finished 3-for-3, while classmate Kat Reeves drew the lone walk.

Mt. Saint Joseph plated a run in the second inning and two runs in the sixth inning. Cook hit safely in the first, fourth and at the beginning of the bottom of the seventh. A ground out would advance her to second, but the Lions would record the final two outs of the game.

Game Two: L, 7-0

Reeves tallied two hits while Magen Authement posted one. Katelyn Norris reached base both times of her bats as she recorded one hit and one walk. Brooklyn Wascom got on base as she was also walked in her lone at bat.

After both teams went scoreless in the first two innings, Huntingdon broke free with a 2-RBI double. They would then go on to add five combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-0 advantage. Neither team would cross the plate again and the Hawks would eventually hold on for the victory.

The Majors will now welcome Hanover College to Jackson for a doubleheader on Wednesday. The first game is set for 4 p.m. with live stats and video available at gomajors.com.
