JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps men's basketball sophomore forward
Aaron Ursin paced the Majors with a team-high 16 points and five boards in a 66-56 loss to Centre on Senior Day. First year guard
Bryce Brown also reached double figures in scoring with 13 points inside the Hangar Dome on Sunday.
Millsaps (3-17, 1-9 SAA) won the turnover battle 12-6, but Centre (11-9, 5-5 SAA) shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the field compared to 34.8 percent (23-of-66) for the Majors.
With the Majors down 15-9 at the under 12-minute timeout, a
Seth Stephen put back and a wide-open corner three by
Cam Rucker cut the deficit to one. As action progressed, Centre bolstered their lead to as much as eleven points. On Millsaps' last offensive possession of the opening half, a driving Brown was fouled and he converted on both free throws to make it a 36-27 game heading into intermission.
The Majors used an 8-0 run midway through the second half, including senior
Newlon Gillihan's tip-in layup and a
Cameron Williams leaning jumper to make it a 47-41 game. Later in the half with the Majors down by nine, Ursin connected on back-to-back hook shots to push the score down to 55-50 heading into the final media timeout.
This would be the closest Millsaps would reach as Centre finished the game on an 11-6 surge on their way to a 66-56 win.
Millsaps returns to action for the final home game of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 9 and will host Birmingham Southern inside the Hangar Dome. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. with live video and live stats provided at gomajors.com.
