JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team fell to the Berry College Vikings, 15-7 in game three of an SAA conference slugfest.
Austin Arceneaux and
Case Page both tallied home runs and two RBIs as the teams combined for 31 hits at Twenty Field on Sunday.
Mark Petkovsek,
Avery Brock,
Mason Little and
Dylan McFarland each garnered two base knocks for Millsaps (13-8, 3-3).
Berry (14-7, 4-2) came out hot with two homers and three runs in the top of the first. The Majors responded with an RBI-single from Petkovsek to bring Pelle home.
With Berry sporting a man in scoring position on second, the Vikings sent him home on a base hit to left field, but
Sam Pitre would laser the ball to tag the runner out as Arceneaux applied the tag.
McFarland would keep up the momentum with a lead-off triple in the bottom of the second, and a two-RBI homer to left field by Arceneaux tied the game up at 3-3.
After a scoreless third inning, Berry once again was threatening to score with only one out and a man on third. Following an infield hit, Little would keep the score tied with a heads up play at shortstop by throwing the man out at home. Later in the inning, Berry would end up eventually scoring with an RBI-single to centerfield to reclaim the lead at 4-3.
Berry would add another run in the top of the fifth, but the Majors would respond when Little scored on a passed ball to make it 5-4.
Millsaps would eventually tie the game at 5-5 when
Jackson Ware blasted an RBI-double to score
Branyan Bounds in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Vikings reclaimed the advantage with a three-run homer in the top of the seventh, but Millsaps once again exhibited resiliency with a two-run homer by Page to make it a 8-7 game.
Vikings would ultimately gain control by scoring five runs in the top of the eighth for a 13-7 edge. Berry would tack on two more runs to claim the 15-7 victory.
