BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Millsaps baseball team battled but were unable to overcome a strong second inning by No. 2 Birmingham Southern College, falling 10-6 on Sunday. Senior third baseman
Chris Hart tallied three hits (two doubles), three RBIs, one run and a stolen base at Striplin Field.
Millsaps (13-12, 3-6 SAA) came out the gates strong when Hart scored on a double steal with senior outfielder
Mark Petkovsek Jr. in the first inning. The Majors then upped their lead to 2-0 when Hart notched an RBI to bring
Avery Brock home.
The bats of the Panthers (18-5, 7-2 SAA) came alive in the bottom of the second inning as they tallied five runs, but the Majors remained in striking distance at 5-3 when fifth-year shortstop
Mason Little (two runs) scored on a throwing error from BSC's catcher when junior outfielder
Sam Pitre stole second.
The Panthers scored four straight runs over the course of the next three innings to surge to a 9-3 advantage. Millsaps would cut into their deficit in the top of the sixth when Hart belted a two-RBI double to right center to assist
Austin Arceneaux and
Case Page (two hits) to home to make it 9-5.
Down to their last three outs and BSC up 10-5, the Majors scored one more run when a Page RBI-single scored Little. Millsaps would then load the bases and have the tying run up to bat. The Majors would hit a pop up for the third out and BSC would preserve the 10-6 win.
