Baseball Bested in Offensive Battle at Oglethorpe

Majors Edged 10-7 in Series Finale on Sunday

ATLANTA – The Millsaps baseball team and Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels combined for 17 runs, but the Majors were bested 10-7 at Hermance Stadium on Sunday.

Senior Chris Hart (2-for-3) finished with two runs, one RBI and two walks, while Case Page, Avery Brock and Jackson Ware tallied two RBIs. Page and Austin Arceneaux each recorded two hits as well.

Hart would open the scoring in the first with a leadoff single for Millsaps (14-15, 4-8 SAA). A fielding error by Oglethorpe (13-14, 6-6 SAA) and Ware RBI groundout brought Hart home.

The Stormy Petrels would answer in their half of the first before Ware would double down the right-field line to score Hart once more, putting Millsaps ahead 2-1 in the third inning.

Oglethorpe would counter with a decisive five-run, fourth inning to push ahead, 6-2. The Majors would retaliate with a pair of their own runs in the fifth courtesy of a Hart RBI double and Page RBI groundout.

Not to be outdone, the Stormy Petrels would push back with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and another in the seventh to make it a 9-4 contest.

Down to their last six outs, the Majors would continue to fight. A leadoff double by Page would be rewarded when Brock homered to right center to begin the eighth. Oglethorpe would then add another score to lead 10-6 entering the final inning.

Page would double to score Abbadessa and Brock earned a walk to load the bases with two outs. A strikeout would end the Sunday afternoon battle as Oglethorpe prevailed, 10-7.

Millsaps is now scheduled to host Belhaven on Tuesday, weather permitting, for a 6 p.m. first pitch. Live video and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
