Bryan Sullivan Tabbed CSCAA Scholar All-American, Majors Named Scholar All-America Teams

Jackson, Miss., Product Becomes First Major in Program History to Earn the Honor

JACKSON, Miss. – Excelling in the pool and inside the classroom, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) recognized the Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs academically.

Senior Bryan Sullivan became the first Major in the program's three-year history to be tabbed a CSCAA First-Team Scholar All-American. Additionally, both programs were recognized as Spring 2022 Scholar All-America Teams.

Sullivan was among 1,206 swimmers across all collegiate classifications to be named to the Scholar All-America Team following the 2021-22 season. The award honors student-athletes who posted a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship.

The Neuroscience major posted a 3.875 GPA and became the program's first-ever NCAA Qualifier in program history. He competed in three events, including the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly. Sullivan claimed conference titles in all three events as well.

Sullivan was named the 2021-22 SAA Men's Swimmer of the Year, SAA Men's Co-Newcomer of the Year and Paul Benton Award Winner, which recognizes the top male student-athlete at Millsaps.

The Jackson Prep product also set four SAA open meet records (50 free, 100 back, 100 fly, 100 IM), eclipsed three SAA conference meet records (50 free, 100 back, 100 IM) and helped establish 12 program records.

Additionally, he won every event during the regular season and at the SAA Swimming & Diving Championships and was tabbed the SAA Men's Swimmer of the Week on three occasions (Oct. 22, Dec. 8, Jan. 28).

Sullivan finished with the top time in DIII in the 100 IM (49.83), which ranked 20th across all classifications. He also ended the season ranked 32nd or better in five events across DIII (50 free – 22nd, 100 back – 32nd, 50 fly – 20th, 100 fly – 28th, 100 IM – 1st).

The CSCAA also bestowed Scholar All-America Team honors for both the Millsaps men's and women's programs. The men finished with a 3.21 GPA, while the women earned a 3.18 GPA. A total of 731 teams from 441 institutions made the list of Scholar All-America Teams for the Spring 2022 semester. An impressive 17,845 student-athletes were represented.

Millsaps ended the season strong as a team. The Majors combined for 14 school records at the SAA Swimming and Diving Championships in February, with the women's program claiming 12.

The Majors first scheduled competition for the 2022-23 season is Oct. 1 in a dual meet at Rhodes College.

Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy and professional development.
