JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps volleyball team split a pair of matches on Day Two of the Millsaps Invitational, falling to Concordia University Texas (3-1) before sweeping the University of Dallas inside the Hangar Dome on Saturday.
Match 1: Concordia Texas 3, Millsaps 1
(18-25, 27-25, 14-25, 21-25)
The Tornadoes overpowered the Majors in the opening match of the day. Senior
Bre Reed finished with a season-high 17 kills to go along with three blocks and four digs.

Hannah Mattke (21 digs), junior
Margaret Richardson (12 digs) and senior
Mary Tebbe (10 digs) finished with multi-digit digs, while sophomore
Zoe Elder recorded 20 assists.
There were nine ties at the 10-10 mark, but a 9-0 burst by Concordia Texas saw the team take control and secure the opening set, 25-18.
Millsaps would respond in the second set, which featured eight ties and four lead changes. A pair of errors by the Tornados would give Millsaps a 27-25 set victory.
Concordia Texas cruised in the second set, winning 25-14 with a 6-0 run and three 3-0 runs to regain the match lead.
Set four was another back-and-forth tussle. Tied at 5-5, both teams would trade 4-0 bursts. With the Majors ahead 19-18, the Tornadoes scored the next six points. A pair of attack errors would close the gap, but Millsaps would fall, 25-21 in the fourth and final set.
Match 2: Millsaps 3, Dallas 0
(25-20, 30-28, 25-22)
Millsaps returned in their second match determined and earned their second sweep of the weekend with a victory over Dallas.
Freshman
Mallory Richardson came alive with 11 kills, while Tebbe finished with a double-double of 16 assists and 11 digs. Mattke added 16 digs and three aces and Elder totaled 16 assists.
The first set saw the Majors holding a narrow 8-7 advantage, but a pair of
Zoe Elder kills sparked a 4-0 run which proved to be the difference down the stretch. The Crusaders wouldn't go quietly, however, posting a 4-0 run and 3-0 run to take a brief 16-15 edge. Millsaps would answer with seven of the next nine points and then close out the set, 25-20.
Set two would see the teams tied an eye-opening 15 times and exchange the lead on six occasions. Millsaps would find themselves down, 24-22 and facing set-point. A Richardson kill and Dallas attack error would restore life in the set.
The Crusaders would then hold leads of 25-24, 26-25 and 27-26 but Millsaps would not buckle. Back-to-back kills by sophomore
Gabby Deas would give the Majors the lead once more. Dallas would score again, but a
Brenna Macaluso kill and Tebbe ace would end the second set at 30-28.
Dallas would jump out to an 8-1 lead in the third set. However, Millsaps would chip away and only find themselves down, 22-19 in the closing moments. A pair of
Alyssa Jolly kills and Mattke aces would help provide the Majors with a closing 6-0 rally to claim the set, 25-22 and the match sweep.
The Millsaps volleyball team will be back in action on Wednesday when the Majors open SAA action by hosting Birmingham-Southern at 6 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com.
