MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Millsaps women's soccer team came up just short against Huntingdon College, 2-0 on the road at the Samford Soccer Complex on Friday.
Freshman goalkeeper and reigning SAA Defensive Player of the Week
Emily Lozano kept the Majors alive with a quality 10-save performance. Junior
Kayla Faraca recorded a shot on target offensively. Fifth year
Hannah Johnson and senior
Riley Ely tallied two shot attempts each.
The Majors tallied six shot attempts to the Hawks' 20. Millsaps had slightly less fouls (6-7) and only had one less corner kick chance (1-2).
Millsaps was able to withstand a barrage of Huntingdon shot attempts early before Johnson posted back-to-back chances in the 24th and 25th minutes. Faraca then had her chance in the 26th minute.
Ely looked poised to give the Majors the lead in the second minute of the second half when her shot was off target to the left. Huntingdon would record the next three shots and break the stalemate in the 61st minute.
The Hawks would add another tally in the 78th minute to build a 2-0 advantage. Freshman
Alexa Dubrow was quick to respond, but her shot attempt went just over the net less than a minute later.
Huntingdon would hold on for the win in the closing minutes. Millsaps returns home to welcome Jackson-area foe Tougaloo College, beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Live stats and video will be available at gomajors.com.
