JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team was bested by East Texas Baptist University, 3-0 at Harper Davis Field on Thursday. All three of the Tigers' goals came in the second half.
The Majors managed nine shots, but were unable to pierce the Tiger defense. Millsaps freshman goalkeeper
Michael Hamauei registered a career-high nine saves off of 12 shots. ETBU outshot the Majors 13-1 in the first half, but the Majors closed the gap in the second with a narrow 10-8 disadvantage.
ETBU peppered Hamauei in the first half, but he stood tall making a leaping stop with his fingertips in the 37th minute. The shot was labeled for the top-right corner. A mere three minutes later, the Tigers nearly scored again with a shot off the post and a second shot that was corralled by the Major keeper.
The Tigers eventually broke through with halftime adjustments and a scoring in the opening minute of the second frame. ETBU would add tallies in the 61st and 85th minutes for the final three scores.
Millsaps best chance of the game came off a freshman
Sam Cagle header that narrowly missed over the crossbar with 13 minutes to play and the score still 2-0. The Majors would continue pressing and manage a corner with 8:30 remaining, but be denied on the opportunity.
The Majors return to Harper Davis Field to host LeTourneau University on Saturday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Live video and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
