JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's basketball team returned to its winning form by knocking down Sewanee, 72-59 inside the Hangar Dome on Sunday.
Millsaps (13-5, 4-3 SAA) dominated in the paint (34-10), on the fast break (15-3), won the battle in bench points (35-12) and outrebounded the visitors (41-26).
Sophomore
Haley Franklin posted a team-high 15 points to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Freshmen
Elyse Warren was a threat on both sides of the court recording her first career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Junior
Helena Roe (12 points, two rebounds) was efficient on 4-of-5 shooting and sophomore
Whitney Novak (12 points, five rebounds) provided a balanced effort.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle before the Majors grabbed control and led 18-13 after 10 minutes of action. Millsaps would hit the accelerator and outscore Sewanee 23-11 in the second and 21-14 in the third quarter, building a lead as large as 24 points and out front, 62-38 with 10 minutes to play.
The Tigers would claw back for a 21-10 advantage in the fourth quarter behind four three-point makes, but the Majors held strong for a 72-59 triumph.
