JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's basketball team fell short to conference leading Berry College, 64-59 inside the Hangar Dome on Friday.
The Majors did well holding a majority of Vikings to a lower percentage in shooting and 33.3 percent as a team (20-60).
Junior
Aaron Ursin garnered nine points, two assists, a block and a steal. Both senior
Doug Watson and freshman
Rodney Phillips Jr. tallied 10 points each.
Millsaps did outscore in bench points (28-17) in a game that featured 10 lead changes and eight ties, which mostly resulted in the first half.
Ursin put the first points on the board for the Majors with a strong finishing layup at 2-2 in the opening minute. Berry would then hold a narrow 30-25 advantage at the break.
Both teams fought very hard in the paint with both having foul trouble finding much space in the second half. Millsaps would claim its last lead, 33-32 at 2:14 into the frame following another Ursin layup along with
TJ Hogan and Phillips Jr. three-pointers.
Narrowly holding a 49-45 advantage with under seven minutes on the clock, Berry would methodically use a 10-0 run to push ahead 59-45 with 3:40 left to play. Millsaps would respond with a 12-5 rally, but ultimately fell just short on the scoreboard.
The Majors will be back in action as they host Oglethorpe inside the Hangar Dome, starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Live video and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
