JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team faced off against Belhaven University in the annual Riverside Derby, falling 5-0 on Wednesday at Harper Davis Field.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Hamauei recorded nine saves in this match, and senior
Jacks Dowdy registered five total shots.
Hamauei had to work early, with three big saves in the first ten minutes of the match.
The Blazers got their first goal in the 18th minute of the match. The goal was off the head of Igor Rudolph.
The second goal came ten minutes later, a strike from the penalty spot by Courtland Williams. Another goal would be scored in the 36th minute off the foot of Koby Rode.
Hamauei made two more big saves, plucking the ball from the top corner. Dowdy also had a shot against Blazer keeper Max Rudolph in the 39th minute, which was saved.
Dowdy would open the second half with another shot attempt, which was again saved by Rudolph in the 46th minute.
The Blazers would seal the game with goals in the 47th and 54th minutes, scored by Courtland Williams and Adrian Sanchez, respectively.
The Majors would generate four more shots, two by Dowdy, one by senior
Connor Stegeman and one by junior
Kade Folse before the match concluded.
