JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team battled Birmingham-Southern during Senior Night on Saturday, but were bested 2-1 at Harper Davis Field.
Millsaps honored six seniors and two graduate students in
Brandon Benn,
David Cox,
Jacks Dowdy,
Sebastiani Maraldo,
Kaleb Newton,
Nicolaus Nieto and
William Ponthie prior to the match.
The Majors held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks as sophomore keeper
Michael Hamauei would end the match with five total saves, including three big stops in the first half.
Millsaps found success early, with a goal scored off Maraldo's header in the 15th minute of the game, assisted off freshman
Ethan Pratt's corner kick.
The Panthers would equalize in the 41st minute from a goal scored by Patrick Kelly right before intermission.
The second half was back and forth for both sides, with the Majors and the Panthers generating shots, including sophomore
Ai Suzuki, junior
Kade Folse and Pratt.
The Panthers would break the deadlock in the 60th minute with a goal from Justin McDowell, assisted by Pirmin Blattman.
The Majors would knock on the door a few times in the last ten minutes of the game, with Suzuki generating two shots and Pratt generating one, but the Panthers would hold on for the slim, 2-1 win.
