JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's soccer team hosted Birmingham-Southern in the 2023 regular-season finale on Saturday, but the Panthers would get a goal late and narrowly claim the defensive match, 1-0.
Both sides would generate a lot of chances at Harper Davis Field, with the Majors outshooting the Panthers eleven to nine. The Majors would also record two corners kicks to the Panthers' one.
The first half saw both sides generating shots on target, including freshman
Alex Bremond, junior
Lily Butcher and sophomore
Ally Hearn.
Millsaps sophomore goalkeeper
Emily Lozano would tally three big saves in the first half and conclude the match with six total stops.
The second half wasn't much different than the first, with both sides creating several chances and both keepers being forced to make big plays.
The Panthers were able to break the deadlock in the 69th minute with a goal from Chaislyn Godleski.
Sophomore
Alexa Dubrow would tally two shots on net in the following minutes after the goal, but both were stopped. BSC would hold on for a 1-0 victory.
Millsaps now sets its focus on the SAA Women's Soccer Championship and will travel to face Sewanee on Saturday. First kick of the quarterfinal matchup is set for 2 p.m. with live video and live stats provided at gomajors.com.
