COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team battled the Owls of MUW on Tuesday in their final match before postseason play. The match was hard fought on both sides, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Nicolas Nieto scored the game-tying goal in the 86th minute and sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Hamauei finished with 12 saves. The Majors also held a narrow 5-4 corner kick advantage.
The first half was a defensive showcase, with both teams generating some shots, but the keepers remaining strong. Hamauei would garner four saves in the first half, including a quick double save in the 41st and 42nd minutes.
The Majors would get some shots in this first half as well. They would get four total with them being taken by seniors
Jacks Dowdy and
Sebastiani Maraldo as well as sophomore
Ai Suzuki and freshman
Ethan Pratt.
The second half opened with Maraldo generating another good effort on goal in the 50th minute which was plucked from the bottom left corner by MUW keeper David McCutchen. Freshman
Ryan Hoover would produce a shot as well in the 66th minute, which was also saved.
The Owls would break the deadlock in the 75th minute from a goal scored by Tres Ray.
The Majors would knock on the door in the succeeding minutes and find the back of the net in the 86th minute. Nieto would perform heroics from the penalty spot, tying the match.
Hamauei would perform masterfully in the closing minutes of the match, where he'd make saves in the 87th minute and three saves in the 90th minute, keeping the match tied.
The Majors will now travel to Oglethorpe for the SAA Men's Soccer Championship Quarterfinal. First kick is set for 10 a.m. CT on Saturday with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
