JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps volleyball team played well in three matches to close its home schedule inside the Hangar Dome. The Majors bested Oglethorpe (3-1) during Saturday's Senior Day and fell to No. 13 Berry (3-0) and No. 25 Covenant (3-1) on Friday.
Saturday Match: Millsaps 3, Oglethorpe 1
(25-27, 25-23, 25-23, 25-14)

A trio of Majors recorded double-doubles in junior
Anna Capezzera (14 kills, 10 digs), junior
Zoe Elder (36 assists, 15 digs, six blocks) and Macaluso (13 kills, 17 digs).
Sophomore
Mallory Richardson netted 10 kills and
Margaret Richardson grabbed 19 digs.
The first set of the afternoon saw the Stormy Petrels secure early 9-4 and 14-5 leads.
Millsaps would eventually remedy the situation with kills by sophomore
Ally Baer and Capezzera along with a service ace and two attack errors to close the gap to 17-13.
Oglethorpe faced set point at 24-22, but a Moore (five blocks) kill and attack error would tie the contest at 24-24.
Both teams continued alternating points and tied at 25-25 when the Stormy Petrels force a Millsaps service error and aced the final point, claiming the first set, 27-25.
The second set was a dual with 12 tie scores and five lead exchanges. Oglethorpe opened the match leading 6-3, however the Majors would respond with a 6-0 run to gain the lead.
Ties would be forged at 10-10, 12-12, 14-14 and 18-18. The Stormy Petrels would respond back with two kills to take a narrow, 21-19 lead. A trio of Oglethorpe would give the Majors the lead back before teams traded points at 23-23.
Millsaps did not waste any more time to put the set away as Capezzera notched a kill along with a visitor attack error to pull out the second set, 25-23.
The third set saw both teams create five additional tie scores. Millsaps fell behind early 9-5 but would later catch back up on a 4-0 run to tie the match at 9-9.
The Stormy Petrels adjusted to build a 15-10 cushion. Millsaps would eventually battle back to tie the match at 18-18.
Millsaps would surpass the Stormy Petrels on crucial, late 5-0 run from there. Oglethorpe would fight back, but a Macaluso kill finalized the third set in the Majors' favor, 25-23.
In the fourth set and ultimately final set, Millsaps looked relentless by utilizing a 7-0 run to jump out front, 11-5. The lead would continue to expand to 16-7 after that.
As the match progressed, three consecutive Capezzera kills would put the match out of reach at 19-10.
The Majors would continue putting up points as two kills by Macaluso, a Moore kill, a pair of attack errors and a service error closed Senior Day, with a 25-14 win in the fourth set.
Match 1 on Friday: No. 13 Berry 3, Millsaps 0
(31-33, 18-25, 20-25)
Capezzera was terrific in Friday's opening match, finishing with a double-double of 16 kills and 14 digs. Elder also held double figures with 31 assists and 14 digs, while
Margaret Richardson led the team with 21 digs.
The first set was a dandy with 13 ties and three lead exchanges. Millsaps would open on a 3-0 run with two kills by Capezzera and a service ace.
The Vikings would soon counter back with an attack error to tie the match and take the lead at 5-4. Both teams continued striking back and forth with big runs, with the Vikings holding a narrow 17-16 advantage.
A kill by Moore and Macaluso would bring the contest into a 20-20 tie. Berry was on the brink at 24-22, but another Capezzera kill and a Viking attack error tied the match at 24-24. Both teams continued swapping points from there until Millsaps would carry a 30-29 lead.
The Vikings would eventually gather a kill and attack error to regain the advantage at 31-30. A kill by Elder would further extend the drama before back-to-back Berry kills closed the epic first set at 33-31.
The second set featured a series of runs back and forth. The Majors held off Berry, 8-4 early. The Vikings would eventually break away break away on a 4-0 and 5-0 run to claim the second set, 25-18.
In the third set, Millsaps briefly took a 5-2 lead after a pair of Capezzera kills, a Macaluso ace, and two Berry errors.
Berry would eventually knot the set at 8-8 and stretch ahead, 15-12. In the final moments, the Vikings would use support from a 3-0 run at a crucial, 20-19 juncture to close out the match. Berry would tally the last two points to take a 25-20 win.
Match 2 on Friday: No. 25 Covenant 3, Millsaps 1
(25-20, 22-25, 20-25, 17-25)
Elder netted another double-double with 35 assists and 11 digs, while Capezzera generated 12 kills and seven digs. Macaluso posted five kills and 10 digs and
Margaret Richardson led the team with 14 digs in Friday's finale.
In the first set, Covenant took an early 3-1 lead, but Millsaps would climb ahead at 10-7 courtesy of two Baer aces.
As the set continued, the Scots would be pushed further behind as the Majors would utilize a 5-0 burst to lead, 20-14.
Covenant would not back down as the contest tightened up with three consecutive points at 20-17. A pair of Scot errors, Capezzera ace and kills by Moore and Elder helped the Majors claim the first set, 25-20.
The second set featured 11 ties and nine lead changes, with both teams trading points back and forth in the beginning. The Scots would used a service ace and kill to take a 14-10 lead midway through. Millsaps responded with a 6-0 run.
The contest would come down to a 20-20 draw and a Moore kill would give the Majors a slim, 21-20 lead. Covenant would soon retaliate back with four kills and an attack error to even the match at 25-22.
The third set was very challenging and competitive on both sides with 10 tie scores and one lead change.
Covenant held a brief 7-3 lead, but the Majors would answer back with a Macaluso kill followed by three attack errors.
Again the match would be tied several times and as late as 18-18. The Scots would use a 5-0 run to pull away and take the third set, 25-20.
In the final set, Covenant built leads of 4-1 and 17-10. Millsaps would look to fight back into the set with five consecutive points with the help of Capezzera and Macaluso kills as well as two Capezzera aces.
Covenant would respond with a 5-0 run of their own and eventually finish the set, 25-17.
