ATLANTA – The Millsaps women's soccer team faced off in an SAA matchup at Oglethorpe, falling 4-1 on Sunday.
Both sides generated a number of shots, with the Majors producing 12 and the Petrels producing 17. Oglethorpe held a narrow 8-7 advantage with shots on target.
Offensively the Majors were powered by sophomore
Alexa Dubrow's goal and three shot attempts and freshman
Alex Bremond's assist. Graduate
Riley Ely added four shot attempts.
The Majors started pressing fast, with Ely forcing Oglethorpe keeper Haley Lowell to make a save early in the third minute of the match.
Unfortunately for the Majors, the Stormy Petrels found the back of the net moments later. Ella Price scored in the seventh minute. The goal was the fifth of the season for Price.
Both sides would generate shots for the remainder of the first half, with Dubrow having chances in the 17th and 39th minutes. Ely registered a shot attempt in the 43rd minute in an attempt to tie the match before intermission.
Oglethorpe started quickly in the second half with a goal scored in the 49th minute by Mackenzie Jones.
The Majors responded quickly, however, with shots by freshman
Mollie Spradley and junior
Lily Butcher forcing Lowell to make big saves in the 58th and 59th minutes, respectively.
The Majors would find the back of the net in the 62nd minute from Dubrow, her third of the season. It was also Bremond's first collegiate assist on the tally.
The Stormy Petrels would answer back with two goals in the 63rd and 65th minutes. The first was scored again by Jones and the other was Price's second of the match.
Millsaps will now return home to take on Belhaven, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Live video and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
