CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs were fantastic in their final meet of the fall schedule, setting 13 school records at the Delta State University Thanksgiving Invitational inside the Ronnie G. Mayers Aquatics Center, Nov. 17-19.
The women's program finished fourth against quality foes and set eight program marks.
Junior
Kat Burns had her hand in six records. She finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.80) and ninth in the 50-yard freestyle finals (24.70). Burns' 50-yard free time of 24.97 in prelims was also record-setting. Additionally, her 100-yard freestyle leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay was record-shattering as well (54.06).
Freshman
Bryn Waller also had a tremendous meet, establishing a new standard in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.69). Senior
Madisyn Latino also bettered her previous record in the event over the weekend (2:04.92).
Sophomore
Zoe Cowell was also stellar in both the pool and jumping off the board. She claimed ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.51) and tallied 259.65 points in the prelims of the 1-meter diving competition. Cowell would later place seventh in the finals with 256.15 points.
Burns, Latino and Waller would team up to help set three relay records. The trio were joined by sophomore
Abigail Hoffman, placing third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:42.30).
The same quartet would place third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a combined time of 3:44.04. Latino, Burns and Waller would also be joined by senior
Ginny Ray Clevenger to set a new standard in the 200-yard medley relay and place third once again (1:54.04).
Just off record pace, Latino, Burns Clevenger and Waller were runner-up in the 400-yard medley relay competition (4:14.23).
On the men's side, the Majors placed fourth and etched five new times in the record book.
Freshman
Payton Jones was able to set the record in the 1650-yard freestyle as well as the 1000-yard freestyle in the same swim. His times were 18:58.11 and 11:23.16, respectively.
Sophomore
Ben Anderson continued his strong season by earning the top overall time in prelims of the 100-yard freestyle (45.95). He would finish second in the finals with a time of 46.12. In the 50-yard freestyle, he was just off record pace with a mark of 20.91 in prelims. Anderson would score runner-up in the finals with a swim in 21.28.
Classmate
Brian Ridner tallied the final record of the meet by placing 10th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.66).
The Majors will practice over the holidays and return to competition at Centenary College on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
