SHREVEPORT, La.
– The Millsaps women's basketball team got stronger as the game went on and downed Centenary, 69-52 inside the Gold Dome on Wednesday.
The matchup was a rematch triumph from Sunday and extended the Majors' win streak to six victories. Sophomore
Elyse Warren netted a season-high 19 points and matched a season-high 11 rebounds.
Junior
Haley Franklin was stellar by nearly recording her own double-double, with 12 points and nine boards. She added two steals and three assists. Classmate
Whitney Novak matched with 12 points and garnered four rebounds.
Fellow junior
Emily Adams was all-around, terrific with six points, three steals, five assists and two rebounds.
Millsaps combined to outshoot the Ladies 44.6 percent (29-of-65) to 32 percent (16-of-50) from the floor. Centenary (1-6) was held to only 25 percent shooting in the second half (6-of 24) as well.
The Majors dominated nearly every offensive category, including points off turnovers (21-8), second-chance points (14-6), bench points (32-7) and points in the paint (48-7). The Ladies held a slim edge in fast-break points (9-4).
Centenary began the game out front, 5-3 but that was the last time the hosts would be ahead. Millsaps closed the first quarter strong and led 20-13 courtesy of a freshman
Garin Freeman buzzer-beating jumper.
The Ladies cut the deficit down to two points, but the Majors held steady to enter halftime ahead, 34-28.
Novak sank a jumper moments into the fourth quarter to give Millsaps a 47-38 advantage. The Majors continued the momentum well into the final frame and in five minutes time were leading by 20 points (63-43).
Centenary chipped into a 21-point advantage a little while later in the closing minutes, but it was too little, too late as the Majors secured an impressive, 69-52 victory on Wednesday.
Millsaps will return home and play a Southern Athletic Association contest on Wednesday against Birmingham-Southern. First tip is slated for 1 p.m. with live video and live stats to be provided at gomajors.com.
