JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps football junior punter
Ethan Klapatch made his mark in the history books as he was selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week for the fourth time during the 2023 season, the organization published on Tuesday.
Klapatch becomes the first punter since the weekly honor roll began being awarded in 1999 to earn the honor four times in a single season or calendar year due to COVID.
He is also the seventh student-athlete across any position to secure recognition on four occasions in a season or calendar year. Only Michael Zweifel of Dubuque was honored five times back in 2011.
The Metairie, La., product becomes the 76th player to tally at least four career honors and only three other punters have made the list at the position.
Ben Dudley of Millsaps was also named to the D3football.com Team of the Week four times; once in 2013 and on three occasions in 2014.
Klapatch has now been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Sept. 26, Oct. 3, Oct. 31 and Nov. 7.
On Saturday, he punted the ball four times for 183 yards (45.8-yard average), with a long of 53 yards and one touchback. Additionally, Klapatch added three kickoffs for 190 yards (63.3-yard average) against Southwestern on Senior Day.
The junior ranks second in NCAA Division III with 45.8 average yards per punt and only 0.2 yards off the national leader. Additionally, Klapatch ranks third with 2,289 total punting yards off of 50 total boots.
The Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, is D3football.com's weekly honor roll, currently in its 25th season of recognizing the top performance at each position from the previous week. Players are nominated by schools and selected via D3football.com.
