Women’s Basketball Takes Down MUW, 61-48 on the Road

Haley Franklin Posts 19 Points, Six Rebounds, Two Assists and Two Steals in Tuesday Triumph

COLUMBUS, Miss. The Millsaps women's basketball team earned their eighth consecutive victory by taking down MUW, 61-48 inside the Pohl Gymnasium on Tuesday.
 
Millsaps dominated MUW in every category by controlling a 30-12 advantage inside the paint, while leading 22-11 off the bench.
 
Junior Haley Franklin posted 19 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists. Freshman Garin Freeman carried 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal, while sophomore Elyse Warren finished with six points, two steals, a block, an assist and tied a career-high 14 rebounds.
 
Both teams traded off points in the beginning of the game. Midway through the first quarter, a Franklin layup would push the Majors ahead by five before Warren would close with a free throw to give the Majors a 19-14 lead after 10 minutes of play.
 
In the second quarter, junior Emily Adams put the Majors up by eight following a 3-pointer. The Owls however would storm back to go into the half, leading 33-31.
 
With six minutes remaining in the third quarter, a Warren layup move inside the paint would push the Majors back ahead by five points following an 8-0 rally. Adams netted five points during that crucial span to begin the second half as well.
 
MUW later cut the Major lead down to two points, but Freeman responded with a layup and Franklin would grab a steal and convert a fastbreak layup to carry the lead back up to 46-40. The Owls scored the next basket as Millsaps held a 46-42 margin entering the final stanza.
 
The Majors continued to dominate by holding MUW to 15.4 percent (4-of-26) combined in the second half. Junior Whitney Novak's jump shot opened the Majors into a double-digit advantage. Franklin would later ice the game with two consecutive layups to help Millsaps claim the 61-48 triumph.
 
The Majors will be back in action in as they host MUW in a rematch on Saturday, Dec. 16 inside the Hangar Dome. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
