JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team can't wait to return to the diamond as it opens the 2023 season on Friday, Feb. 10. The Majors finished runner-up last season in the SAA Championship Series and have 26 student-athletes back from that squad.

Jim Page enters his 35th season at the helm (815-554-3) after being named Conference Coach of the Year for the eighth time. His decorated career will be celebrated this summer as he will be inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
A total of four student-athletes are back after being named to the 2022 All-SAA Baseball Team, including senior pitcher
Wil Wood (First Team), third baseman
Chris Hart (Second Team), designated hitter
Case Page (Second Team) and left fielder
Sam Pitre (Honorable Mention).
Wood finished with an impressive 10-3 record and 4.20 ERA. The senior led the conference with those 10 wins and 81.1 innings pitched, while striking out 65 batters. He also finished top five in the SAA in opposing batting average (.256).
Hart was also named to the D3baseball.com All-Region Team after starting 45 times. The Brandon, Miss., graduate finished in the league's top 10 in runs scored (54), hits (62), doubles (13), triples (three), homers (seven), at bats (186) and hit by pitches (14). The senior also drew a team-high 28 walks to go with a .333 batting average.
Junior
Case Page made 35 starts in 40 appearances as the designated hitter or first baseman. He registered 63 putouts with a perfect fielding percentage. The Flowood, Miss., native finished with 18 walks, 34 hits, 25 runs and 29 RBIs.
Pitre, finished in the top 10 and led Millsaps with a .577 slugging percentage. The Opelousas, La., junior also paced Millsaps with a perfect 13-of-13 on stolen base attempts and was second with a .342 batting average. Pitre was also named the SAA Player of the Week and earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week in early March. The Chemistry major finished with 51 hits, 36 runs, 10 doubles, seven home runs and 39 RBIs.

Bradley Pelle (.316 BA), junior infielder
David Abbadessa (.976 fielding percentage), graduate
Nathan Chilton (.325 BA), senior
Joshua Laurent (.385 BA) and junior
Jackson Ware (.325 BA).
The pitching staff will also see the return of junior
Jackson Hood, graduate
Jackson Russo, sophomore
Nick Tarantino and others.
A total of 15 newcomers will also look to make an impact. Freshmen lead the way, while a pair are transfers. Junior pitcher
Will Cook (Holmes CC) and catcher
Robert Vassallo (USC Salkehatchie) should contribute in 2023.
The Majors start the season by welcoming in LeTourneau University, Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11. Millsaps also hosts their annual Millsaps Baseball Classic, Feb. 24-28. Conference play will then begin at Centre on Saturday, March 11. Then the regular season will conclude with the Majors facing Oglethorpe at Twenty Field, April 21-22.
The SAA Baseball Tournament will feature best-of-three series hosted by the league's top-four seeds, April 28-29 with the winners facing off in the best-of-three SAA Championship Series, May 4-6. Locations and matchups will be based on conference standing. Live video and live stats will be provided for all home games at gomajors.com.
