Men’s Basketball Bested by BSC in Regular-Season Finale on Wednesday

Majors Will Travel to Face Rhodes in the SAA Quarterfinal at 3 p.m. on Sunday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's basketball team was bested by Birmingham-Southern, 85-64 in the regular-season finale inside the Hangar Dome on Wednesday.

Following league wide results, Millsaps now enters the SAA Tournament as the No. 7 seed and will travel to face No. 2 Rhodes at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

On Wednesday, senior Doug Watson was terrific with his 20th double-digit scoring game of the season (18 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals). Junior Aaron Ursin posted 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Freshman Stewart Bonnecaze (10 points, four rebounds) and junior James Little (11 points) reached double figures offensively as well.

BSC outshot the Majors 43.2 percent (32-74) to 34.4 percent (21-61), including 33.3 percent from long range (11-33). The Panthers outrebounded Millsaps 49-29, resulting in a 22-4 second-chance advantage and 40-24 scoring edge from the paint.

The Majors did find success in the fast break by outscoring the visitors 12-2 in that category.

Birmingham-Southern would take an early lead, but Millsaps would fight back into the contest. Ursin capitalized on a jump shot to punctuate a 9-0 Major rally, cutting the deficit to 32-27 with just under one minute remaining in the first half.

Bonnecaze would strike for back-to-back three pointers, making it a 42-34 Panther edge with 18:31 remaining.

A Watson three-pointer would make it a five-point game once more at 46-41, with 15 minutes remaining. However, a barrage of BSC long-range makes would change the momentum and create a 85-64 final score.

Millsaps will travel to battle Rhodes in the SAA Quarterfinal at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Live video and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
