Women’s Basketball Closes Regular Season with Fifth Straight Win

Haley Franklin Tallied 27 Points, 10 Rebounds in 84-68 Win at BSC on Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Millsaps women's basketball team concluded the regular season on a high note by besting Birmingham-Southern, 84-68 inside the Bill Battle Coliseum on Wednesday.

Millsaps (18-7, 9-5 SAA) won its fifth consecutive contest and finished the SAA schedule as the No. 3 seed. They will host the same Birmingham-Southern (13-12, 6-8 SAA) team as the No. 6 seed in the SAA Tournament Quarterfinals at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

On Wednesday, sophomore Haley Franklin totaled 27 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, one steal and one assist. It was the Baton Rouge, La., native's tenth 20-point game and her fourth double-double of the season.
 
Freshman Elyse Warren continued to dominate the interior with 10 points, 13 rebounds and one block. It was her fifth double-double in the last eight games. Junior Helena Roe was strong with 10 points, six rebounds, a block and an assist.
 
Junior DeZarae Stewart finished with 11 points and two boards, while sophomore Emily Adams was an excellent passer with five assists and six points.
 
Millsaps led from start to finish, but saw the game close early at 5-5. The Majors responded with a 12-0 burst to build some distance. BSC was held to 20 percent (4-20) in the first quarter, which allowed the Majors to grow its advantage to 23-9 through 10 minutes.
 
The Panthers were held to 31.2 percent (24-77) for the entire game, while Millsaps converted 42 percent (29-69) of their shots. The Majors also excelled finding points in the paint (40-16) and outrebounded the hosts (61-43).
 
BSC battled back in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 43-32 at halftime. The Panthers would continue to claw back into the final game and get as close as seven points, trailing 53-46 with just over three minutes remaining.

Millsaps refocused and built its lead back up in the closing minutes of the third frame and furthered its edge in the fourth quarter. The Majors powered through to earn an 84-68 road victory.
