MT. BERRY, Ga. – The Millsaps men's basketball team hung tough early, but couldn't keep up late to conference-leading Berry, falling 92-66 inside the Cage Center on Friday.
Senior
Doug Watson recorded 18 points and two steals, while both freshman
Stewart Bonnecaze (five rebounds, two steals) and junior
Aaron Ursin (three assists) tallied 13 points each.
Millsaps produced a 17-9 turnover advantage, which resulted in a 20-6 edge in points off of those takeaways. The Majors also were the better team with a 16-2 mark in fast break points.
However, Berry outshot the Majors 50.8 percent (33-of-65) to 36.6 percent (26-of-71).
The opening minutes of the game saw 10 lead changes and two ties in a back-and-forth affair. Bonnecaze finished a nice driving layup to put the Majors ahead 14-11 early, polishing off a 6-0 run.
The Vikings would take the lead shortly after, but not before freshman
Dakota Gasca would sink a nice jumper of the backboard, cutting the deficit to 22-20.
Berry then surged ahead to lead 48-29 at intermission and further in the second half to result in a 92-66 decision.
Millsaps wraps up its four-game road trip at Oglethorpe on Sunday. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. CT with live video and live stats provided at gomajors.com.
