BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs started off the four-day 2023 Southern Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships strong by setting three school records, and nearly claiming a fourth inside the Birmingham CrossPlex on Wednesday.
The opening night of league competition consisted of four relays and diving finals.
On the women's side, freshman
Abigail Hoffman, sophomore
Kat Burns along with juniors
Ginny Ray Clevenger and
Madisyn Latino finished sixth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 54.83 seconds. The men's team, which featured graduate
Bryan Sullivan, and freshmen
Ben Anderson,
Andrew Meadows and
Kaiden Auzenne also finished sixth in a program-best mark of 1:37.28.
In the 800-yard free relay, the women's quartet of Clevenger, sophomore
Catherine Passarelli, classmate
Chloee Beebe and Latino shattered the previous school by more than three seconds in 8:32.37 in seventh. Auzenne, freshman
Thad Erato, senior
Cooper Clevenger and junior
Casey Miller were sixth for the men and were just half a second off the school record, swimming 7:54.53 on Wednesday.
The remaining three days of competition will feature 10 a.m. preliminary heats, which will be followed by finals at 6 p.m. Live video will be provided for each session at the following
