Gabe Brooks Finishes Fifth at DIII Lidlifter, Men’s Golf Places Sixth

Senior Carded a Four-Under Par 72 in Round Two, Lowest Round by a Major Since 2017

KINGWOOD, Texas – Senior Millsaps men's golf student-athlete Gabe Brooks posted a phenomenal finish, carding a four-under par 72 in Round Two of the DIII Lidlifter on the Clubs of Kingwood Forest Course. Brooks finished tied for fifth with a two-round score of plus-4 (80-68—148).

The Majors finished sixth as a team (plus-48), tying with No. 24 East Texas Baptist. No. 11 LeTourneau won the event at plus-25. Competitors battled on a 6,727-yard, par-72 course, which is tight and required accuracy off the tee.

"The greens are odd shaped and well bunkered," Millsaps head men's and women's golf coach Michael Fluty said. "It's a good test for our first spring event. The winner will play well in all phases of the game."

Kaiden Schneider (LeTourneau) and Andrew Chow (Texas at Dallas) tied on the leaderboard only three strokes ahead of Brooks at plus-one.

Brooks catapulted 31 spots on Tuesday after a plus-eight on Monday. His 68 is the lowest round by a Major since Oct. 2017 when Tanner Tabor tied for first overall at the Chick-fil-A Invitational following a Round Three 67.

Brooks, a Business Administration major, led the field at minus-two on par 4 courses. He also tallied one of five eagles in the event, posted five birdies and 23 pars.

Sophomore Will Danielson went under 70, with a 69 earlier this season at the SAA Fall Preview in September. He finished tied for third in that event. Senior Andrew Lovejoy has also posted a score of 69 in his career.

At the DIII Lidlifter, Lovejoy ended tied for 30th (plus-13) and Danielson finished tied for 34th (plus-14). Additionally, Danielson notched five birdies and Lovejoy accumulated 23 pars.

Rounding out the Major scoring was senior Krtin Udith (T-47th, plus-20) and junior Harrison Rhymes (T-49th, plus-21). Freshman Batton Barber competed in his first collegiate event as well (T-60th, plus-27).

Millsaps will return to action in the Hal Sutton Invitational and take part at The Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier, La., March 21-22.
