Baseball Claims Conference Series Win Over Hendrix

Majors Tally Two-of-Three Wins at Twenty Field on Saturday and Sunday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team won two-of-three games, while hosting Hendrix in the Majors' conference home opener. Saturday saw the Majors win 10-4 before falling 10-2 in seven innings. Millsaps recovered to claim Game Three, 6-3 on Sunday.

Game 1: 10-4, W

Senior Austin Arceneaux dominated at the plate, going 2-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Junior David Abbadessa had a solid outing, going 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Freshman starting pitcher Stewart Bonnecaze threw five scoreless innings to go along with four strikeouts, four walks and one hit against. Junior Graham Harrison finished the last 3.1 innings, holding the Warriors to two runs, two hits and four walks.

Abbadessa got the scoring started in the second inning, which featured seven Major runs. A single brought home both teammate Jackson Ware and freshman EJ Ousley.

A senior Sam Pitre single followed by a bases-loaded wild pitch made it 4-0. Junior Case Page later brought home senior Chris Hart on a fielder's choice before Arceneaux scored Pitre and sophomore Bradley Pelle.

Both teams were held in check until the Majors added two more scores in the fifth. A passed ball would score Arceneaux from third and an Abbadessa bunt single brought to the plate Ousley.

Hendrix scored two in the top of the sixth and ninth innings. Sandwiched in between was the Major eighth inning where Arceneaux singled home Pelle for the 10th tally.

Game 2: 10-2 (7 inn.), L

Abbadessa continued his solid play by going 2-3 with a double and run scored. However, it was not enough as Hendrix evened the series with a Game Two win.

The Warriors built a 6-0 margin through the first four innings. The Majors ended the shutout in the sixth courtesy of an Abbadessa double, wild pitch and Page sacrifice fly.

Hendrix added four more runs in the top of the seventh before senior Nathan Chilton brought home Ousley on an RBI ground out for the contest's final run.

Game 3: 6-3, W

Senior Wil Wood tallied five strikeouts, five walks and held the Warriors to three runs and four hits in 7.0 IP. Junior Will Cook struck out two batters against one hit and one walk in the final two frames.

Abbadessa continued his hot weekend despite the cool weather in Game Three. He batted 2-4 with a run scored, RBI and double. Sophomore Zac Farris went 2-3 with three RBIs, two runs and powered a two-run homer. Additionally, Arceneaux finished 2-3 with a run and walk.

It was a pitching battle as neither team scored until the bottom of the fourth. Pitre also did his part hauling in several diving catches in left field while battling a windy day.

The Majors scored first off Farris' two-run home run that sailed over the left-field wall. Hendrix grabbed all three of its runs in the fifth in response.

Undaunted, the Majors scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Abbadessa singled home Ware. A few plays later saw an error by the Hendrix first baseman add two Major tallies.

Millsaps would add another run for insurance in the seventh and hold off the Warriors for a 6-3, series-clinching win.
