Comeback Effort Powers Baseball Past MUW, 9-6

Chris Hart Hammers Two-Run Home Run as Majors Use Six-Run Seventh to Win on Tuesday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball team started slow, but used a huge surge in the later innings to battle back and down the MUW Owls, 9-6 at Twenty Field on Tuesday.

Chris Hart, Bradley Pelle (two runs), Austin Arceneaux and Jackson Ware all tallied a pair of hits, while senior Sam Pitre went 3-5 with two runs scored. Additionally, Page tallied three RBIs and Hart scored twice and powered a two-run homer.

Sophomore Nick Tarantino and freshman Taylor Lowe combined to pitch the final four innings to hold the visitors to three hits and two runs.

Millsaps started the game fast with two runs in the first inning. The first three Majors singled, which was followed by a Page fielder's choice RBI. A steal attempt then directed the Owl attention to second base allowing Pitre to smartly race home for a 2-0 edge.

The Owls then scored once in the fourth, three times in the fifth and once more in the sixth inning. Millsaps began its comeback quest in the bottom of the sixth when Arceneaux singled home Pelle to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Millsaps then exploded for six runs in the seventh – all with two outs – to regain a lead it would never relinquish. Hart would spark the charge with a two-run shot that sailed over the left field wall.

Later on, Page would single home both Pelle and Pitre to make it 7-5 in favor of the Majors. Freshman EJ Ousley would then single home Page and Ware would use a double to plate Arceneaux.

MUW added a tally in the eighth, but were sat down 1-2-3 in the ninth, allowing Millsaps to earn a 9-6 triumph.

The Majors will next host a JV doubleheader against LSU Eunice on Thursday, beginning at 5 p.m. Live video will be available at gomajors.com.

Millsaps will then trek to Sewanee for a three-game set on Saturday and Sunday.
