JACKSON, Miss. – Millsaps swimming and diving graduate
Bryan Sullivan was recognized by the prestigious College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America following his efforts at the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. On Tuesday, he was named CSCAA First Team All-America in the men's 100-yard butterfly and CSCAA Second Team All-America in the men's 100-yard breaststroke.
The awards were determined by a nationwide vote of CSCAA-member Division III head swimming coaches and head diving coaches for the 2022-23 season. All-Americans are selected on the basis of their finish at the NCAA Championships and a team's current membership with the CSCAA.
Only student-athletes who competed in their championship finals are eligible for All-America Honors. NCAA relays and individuals must score in the top 8 to earn first-team honors while those who finish ninth through sixteenth earn second-team honors.
The CSCAA selected 266 student-athletes for First Team All-America across NCAA Division III. An additional 203 individuals were named Second Team All-America.
Sullivan was also named an NCAA All-American following his seventh-place finish at nationals in the 100 fly. He finished with a time of 47.92 seconds.
He then finished 16th in the B Final of the 100-yard breaststroke to earn NCAA Honorable Mention All-American status. The Jackson, Miss., product's preliminary mark of 54.80 seconds set a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) record.
Additionally, the Millsaps graduate advanced to the B Final of the men's 50-yard freestyle.
Sullivan's placements in the 100 fly and 100 breaststroke tallied 13 points for the Majors, propelling Millsaps to a 31st-place finish at nationals.
A scholar in the classroom as well, the back-to-back SAA Men's Swimmer of the Year was named a 2022 CSCAA Scholar All-American.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy and professional development.
