MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Millsaps baseball team fell in its finale of the Huntingdon Spring Break Tournament, 7-6 to the host Hawks at Neal Posey Field on Sunday.
Millsaps (7-7) built a six-run lead, but fell to Huntingdon (8-2) in 11 innings. Despite the loss, the Majors have won five of their last seven games.
Freshman
Ryan Laiche was strong in the first five innings, allowing zero runs with three strikeouts against two hits and four walks.
Senior
Joshua Laurent also performed well going 3-5 with three RBIs. Junior
Case Page went 2-4 with two runs scored, while junior
Jackson Ware tripled, tallied two RBIs, scored a run and walked.
The Majors opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the second inning. Senior
Austin Arceneaux and sophomore
Bradley Pelle singled to reach successfully. The duo were brought home on Ware's two-RBI triple. Laurent batted next and plated Ware with a single to right field.
The game would go without a run until the Majors added two in the sixth. After reaching base to open the inning, both junior
Case Page and Pelle scored off a Laurent RBI single to center field.
Page doubled to open the eighth, reached third and later scored off a passed ball to make it 6-0. However, the Hawks would post a six-run, bottom of the eighth to tie the game.
Huntington tallied the winning run in the 11th inning following a walk, double and RBI single.
The Majors will next take on Belhaven in Game Two of the Cowboy Maloney Series at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss. on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
