Majors Fall to Rhodes in Weekend Series

Baseball Concludes Regular Season Slate at Home with Oglethorpe, Friday-Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball program was downed by Rhodes in a trip of games, 5-2, 8-5 and 14-7 over the weekend on Stauffer Field at Irwin Lainoff Stadium.
 
Game 1: 5-2, L
 
Graduate Chris Hart finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and a walk. Junior Jackson Ware batted 2-4 including a run and stolen base.
 
Freshman Stewart Bonnecaze pitched 5.2 innings with six strikeouts against three earned runs and four walks.  Sophomore Nick Tarantino closed out the final 2.1 innings, striking out three batters while allowing two runs.
 
Senior Sam Pitre led of the top of third with a double and later scored off a wild pitch. Millsaps would continue to advance in the fourth inning with Hart singling home Ware to give the Majors a 2-0 lead.
 
The Lynx would attack in the bottom of the fifth with three runs pushing their lead to 3-2.
 
Rhodes added two runs in the seventh and the Majors would keep the Lynx from scoring the remaining of the game.
 
Game 2: 8-4 (7 inn.), L
 
Hart posted a 2-for-3 outing in Game Two with two runs and a walk. Freshman EJ Ousley also finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a stolen base, while senior Austin Arceneaux finished 2-4 alongside one RBI and run scored. Ware added two hits and crossed the plate for a run.
 
Junior Case Page started the game off with a single scoring Hart. The Lynx would retaliate in the bottom of the second with four unanswered runs.
 
Millsaps added two runs in the top of third with a Page RBI ground out and later Arceneaux would provide a single to score Pitre.
 
Rhodes attached a run in the fourth and three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to push the lead to 8-3.

The Majors would answer back in the sixth with a base hit from Ousley, tallying Arceneaux. Both teams would remain scoreless the remainder of the seven-inning game.
 
Game 3: 14-7, L
 
Hart and Ware both completed a 2-for-5 outing with a run each in the series finale on Sunday. Ware added a pair of RBIs and a double.

Pitre tallied two walks, a double and two runs. Freshman Mason Morgan batted 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, a walk and scored once.
 
Junior Wil Cook pitched 2.1 innings holding the Lynx to one earned run with three strikeouts. Graduate Jackson Russo wrapped up the final two innings with no earned runs and a strikeout.
 
The Majors struck early again in the first inning. Page grounded out to plate Hart. Millsaps would continue to build the lead as Ware doubled home Pitre and a Morgan single brought Ware around to build a 3-0 lead.
 
Rhodes responded in the bottom of the frame with four runs. Morgan tallied his first career collegiate home run of the season to tie the game. Ousley then provided a single to score sophomore Bradley Pelle to help the Majors regain the lead.
 
The Lynx added three runs in both the third and fourth innings to construct a 10-5 advantage.
 
Rhodes made it 14-5, but the Majors looked to battle back in the ninth. Pitre reached on an error to score senior Joshua Laruent. Ware would later follow with an RBI single to bring Pitre home for the seventh and final run of the contest.
 
The Majors will return to Twenty Field to host Oglethorpe, beginning at 12 p.m. for a Friday doubleheader. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
