Sam Pitre Homers Three Times to Power Baseball on Senior Day

Majors Stormed Past Oglethorpe with 10-0, 8-7 Victories on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps baseball program made a memorable Senior Day even more memorable by downing Oglethorpe, 10-0 and 8-7 at Twenty Field on Saturday. Senior Sam Pitre blasted three total home runs and two in Game One, becoming the first Major since Avery Brock went yard twice on April 5, 2022.

The Majors recognized graduates Carter Jones, Chris Hart and Jackson Russo along with seniors Austin Arceneaux, Jack Beckham, Brady Davis, Melvindrick Johnson, Joshua Laurent, Sam Pitre and Brian Westfall.

Game 1: 10-0 (7 inn.), W

Pitre (2-4) finished with a season- and career-high two home runs to with four RBIs and two runs. Hart batted 3-3 with two runs, an RBI, double and walk. Freshman EJ Ousley tallied two RBIs.

Freshman Stewart Bonnecaze pitched six scoreless innings with five strikeouts, while allowing four hits and five walks. Classmate Taylor Lowe closed out the final inning by striking out one batter.

The Majors opened the first inning with a Pitre two-run homer. The teams would hold in a pitcher's battle until the sixth inning. Laurent forced the Oglethorpe second baseman into an error and throw to third base, which brought home a heads up junior Jackson Ware.

Pitre would post his second home run and scored Hart yet again, building a 5-0 lead to open the seventh. Ware would then utilize a sacrifice fly to left field bringing home classmate Case Page.

Moments later, Millsaps would add two additional runs for an 8-0 advantage off an Ousley two-RBI single. Junior David Abbadessa singled and Hart doubled to plate two more tallies and bring the run-rule into play.

Game 2: 8-7 (7 inn.), W

Pitre batted 1-2 with a home run and four RBIs in Game Two. Arceneaux finished 3-4 with two doubles and a pair of runs. Additionally, Laurent tallied a 2-3 day with a run and two stolen bases, while sophomore Bradley Pelle generated two sacrifice fly RBIs.

Senior Wil Wood opened with 5.0 IP, allowing two walks and four runs. He struck out six batters against eight hits. Junior Jackson Hood shut the door the final 1.1 innings with three strike outs, one walk, one hit against and no runs allowed.

The Stormy Petrels opened with a single run in the top of the fourth. The Majors would immediately answer back with six runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. A Pelle sacrifice fly would score Arceneaux to tie the game. Hart later worked a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-1. With the bases still loaded, Pitre cracked a grand slam to right center and give the Majors a crucial cushion.

Oglethorpe added three runs in the top of the fifth, but a crucial 6-4-3 double play limited the comeback effort. Ousley and Pelle would take over the bottom of the fifth by scoring Arceneaux and Ware with back-to-back sacrifices. The Stormy Petrels followed by adding three runs to cut the deficit to 8-7 in the sixth.

Hood closed out the game with three consecutive strikeouts and a caught stealing for the final out.
