Jackson, Miss. Graduate Secures Honor for Second Consecutive Season

JACKSON, Miss. – The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its 2023 Individual Scholar All-America Team and Scholar All-America Team for the Spring 2023 semester, following the school year.

Graduate Bryan Sullivan was selected CSCAA First-Team Scholar All-America for the second consecutive season, while both Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs were recognized as Spring 2023 Scholar All-America Teams.

The Jackson, Miss., graduate was amongst 2,290 (1,270 women and 1,020 men) swimmers and divers across the collegiate landscape to be tabbed Scholar All-Americans for the 2022-23 season.

To be named to the First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.50 and participate in their respective national championship. Second-Team selections also earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher and met the "B" time standard for the national championship or participated in a diving zone qualification meet. All criteria can be found on the CSCAA website.

The MBA student owns a 4.0 GPA after being named CSCAA First Team All-America in the men's 100-yard butterfly and CSCAA Second Team All-America in the men's 100-yard breaststroke. He also became the program's first NCAA All-American following a seventh-place finish at nationals in the 100 fly (47.92 seconds).

Sullivan earned his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and qualified for the national meet on three occasions, twice with Millsaps College for Division III and once with Drury University for Division II in 2019.

In his two seasons with the Majors, he was twice named the SAA Men's Swimmer of the Year as well as the 2021-22 SAA Men's Co-Newcomer of the Year. Sullivan has tallied five conference titles, holds three conference meet records, seven conference open records and 14 Millsaps records.

The Jackson Prep graduate was also voted the 2021-22 Paul Benton Award Winner, which recognizes the Millsaps College Athletics top senior male student-athlete. Additionally, he was selected the SAA Swimmer of the Week six times and made Club 40 with a perfect 4.0 GPA semester in all three seasons of the club's existence.

The men's program finished with a 3.16 Spring semester GPA, while the women's totaled a 3.36 GPA. A total of 17,497 student-athletes were represented across the Scholar All-America Teams.

Millsaps ended the season strong as the teams combined for 14 program records at the SAA Swimming & Diving Championships in February. The Majors begin the 2023-23 campaign at Mississippi foe Delta State University on Sept. 22.

Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy and professional development.
