JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team faced off against Rhodes College in their SAA opener, but found themselves on the losing side of a 3-0 score at Harper Davis Field on Friday.
The highlight of the game for the Majors was sophomore
Michael Hamauei, who faced 23 total shots and pushed aside six of nine attempts on frame. He made one diving save in the first half on a shot that was destined for the top corner.
Hamauei faced several shots in the first twenty or so minutes of the game, including a few which required him to make some diving stops.
It wasn't until the 41st minute of the first half that Rhodes managed to score. The goal was scored by Brendan Kane.
The Majors produced two shots late in the first half. The first by senior
Jacks Dowdy, which went over the bar and the other by teammate
William Ponthie, which also missed high left.
The second half saw similar success for Rhodes going forward. They produced several shots early on and managed to find the back of the net in the 60th and 74th minutes, with the goals being scored by Rhys Hourmont and Pierce Miller, respectively.
The Majors had an opportunity to score late in the second half when sophomore
Ai Suzuki forced Rhodes' keeper Evan Kane to make a save in the final 30 seconds.
