JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer program prevailed against Tougaloo College, 2-0 on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup at Harper Davis Field.
Senior
Connor Stegeman tallied three shot attempts and scored twice, while classmate
Jacks Dowdy assisted on both tallies. Sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Hamauei garnered his second collegiate shutout by stopping all five shots.
The game started fast for both sides with each generating chances early on. Hamauei was forced to make a diving stop when Tougaloo midfielder Adrian Williams got loose on goal and generated a strong shot. Hamauei dove back to his left and speared the ball away.
The Majors had several opportunities in the first half and finally managed to score with two seconds left on the clock before intermission. Dowdy passed the ball across the net front and found Stegeman who buried the shot before time expired. The goal was the first of Stegeman's collegiate career.
The second half saw a similar style play out between both squads, each generating a good deal of shots. It would in the end be Stegeman himself who sealed the deal for the Majors. In the 68th minute, off of a second assist by Dowdy, Stegeman would score his second goal of the match on a nifty pass across the box.
Millsaps will now resume Southern Athletic Association action when it travels to face Hendrix, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Live video and live stats will be available for the match at gomajors.com.
