Women’s Soccer Bested by Rhodes, Piedmont in Weekend Matches

Majors Will Be Back in Action at Huntingdon on Tuesday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's soccer team was downed by identical 1-0 scores against Rhodes on Friday and Piedmont University on Sunday. Beyla Bleichner was recognized for Senior Day at Harper Davis Field in Sunday's matchup.

Match 1: Rhodes 1, Millsaps 0

Friday featured the SAA opener for both squads, with the game being incredibly tight most of the way, but Rhodes held on for a 1-0 win.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Lozano faced a series of shots early in the first half. She made a large number of big time saves, all of which kept the Majors in the game. She would end the game with a total of eight saves.

Rhodes managed to find the back of the net in the 34th minute with a penalty kick tally.

The Majors had several players record shot attempts during the game, including junior Chloee Beebe, freshman Alex Bremond, fifth year Riley Ely and graduate Mary Ranager.

Both Ranager and Bremond hit the crossbar in the 88th minute in a solid attempt at tying the contest. The Lynx would hold on for the narrow 1-0 decision.

Match 2: Piedmont 1, Millsaps 0

The second match of the weekend was an even content for most of the ninety minutes, with the Majors producing seven shots and Piedmont producing nine.

The first half of the game was very back and forth, including three consecutive early shots by Dubrow minutes apart. Lozano made a few very critical saves and seven total for the match.

During the second half she made a diving one-on-one save with about thirty minutes remaining.

The Majors were led on offense by Dubrow's three shot attempts. Bremond, Ely, Ranager and freshmen Becca Quick and Mollie Spradley all had shots on target as well.

The game was scoreless for the first 81 minutes. Savannah Jerome found the back of the net for Piedmont off of a series of deflections in the box. The goal would be the only of the game.

Millsaps will play the next four matches on the road, beginning with a Tuesday night matchup at Huntingdon in Montgomery, Ala. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
