CLEVELAND, Miss. & MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs opened their 2023-24 seasons with a pair of meets on the road over the weekend.
The Majors competed against Delta State on Friday and traveled to Rhodes to compete in a short-course meter pool on Saturday.
On Friday, sophomore
Ben Anderson placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.04) and second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.51). Classmates
Andrew Meadows (200-yard breaststroke, 2:41.23) and freshman
Brian Ridner (100-yard butterfly, 56.41) also posted runner-up performances at Delta State.
Ridner also was third in the 100-yard backstroke (59.55), while sophomore
Kaiden Auzenne (50-yard freestyle, 23.89) and freshman
Payton Jones (100-yard fly, 1:03.75; 200-yard free, 2:05.43) were also third in multiple events.

Jackson Van Meter and Auzenne were the top scoring team in the men's 200-yard free relay at 1:32.19.
A total of nine Majors recorded runner-up showings at Delta State in the dual meet for the women's program. Sophomore
Zoe Cowell recorded the first diving points in the program's five-season history after completing six dives in second place. Cowell tallied 152.17 points and also was second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:44.04).
Junior
Catherine Passarelli was second in both the 500-yard free (6:21.34) and 1000-yard free (13:12.67). Senior
Ginny Ray Clevenger was also terrific with a trio of second-place showings in the 100-yard fly (1:06.53), 200-yard fly (2:34.76) and 200-yard IM (2:33.86).
Additional second-place showings were recorded by sophomore
Abigail Hoffman (100-yard back, 1:14.88) and freshman
Haylei Pineda (200-yard free, 2:51.13). Freshman
Bryn Waller was third in the 50-yard free with a swift time of 25.88.
Junior
Kat Burns was strong as she swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.82 behind three DSU swimmers. She was also fifth in the 100-yard freestyle at 57.52.

Madisyn Latino, Waller and Passarelli also were the top-placing and highest-counting relay team in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.32).
On Saturday in a short-course metered pool against Rhodes, Anderson was runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (24.73) and Meadows was second in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:21.19).
Anderson (50-meter breaststroke, 32.41), Auzenne (100-meter free, 1:01.77), Jones (100-meter back; 1:13.79) and Ridner (50-meter fly, 27.67) were third as well.
Ridner, Anderson, Van Meter and Auzenne also claimed second-place in the 200-meter freestyle relay with a mark of 1:42.79.
Burns was the top-placing women's swimmer against the Lynx. She was second in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:21.95) and third in the 50-meter breaststroke (36.70).
The Majors will next compete against the University of Montevallo in Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 14.
