JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's soccer team lost a close game hosting McMurry University, 2-1 on Sunday. It was the final of four matchups of the Millsaps Women's Soccer Classic at Harper Davis Field over the weekend.
Sophomore
Alexa Dubrow scored her second goal of the season, while junior
Isabella Locke made six saves in a valiant effort.
McMurry (2-0) managed 16 shot attempts, but only eight of those hit the net. Millsaps (1-1) tallied two shots, with the one on target lighting up the scoreboard.
The match started fast with the War Hawks forcing Locke to make a diving save in the first minute. She continued to be dominant for the entire first half where she recorded an outstretched save with only 15 minutes on the clock, followed by a one-on-one save with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half.
Millsaps did stike first from a free kick by Dubrow in the 18th minute, 20 yards out. Dubrow would add a shot attempt 10 minutes later.
The second half saw Locke making more critical saves early on, with a diving stop in the 51st minute and another in the 52nd.
McMurry finally managed to get on the board after a goal was scored from the penalty spot by Emily Holland in the 59th minute. Of the sixteen shots registered by the Warhawks, nine of them were shot by Holland.
It wasn't until the 81st minute where the Warhawks managed to tally the deciding goal. The goal was scored of the crossbar and down by Kaylee Worth and assisted by Holland. The assist was Holland's fourth of the weekend.
The Majors will now travel to Marshall, Texas to face East Texas Baptist University, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Live video and stats of all matches will be available at gomajors.com.
