Women’s Basketball Closes Out Sewanee, 86-59 in SAA Win

Haley Franklin Recorded 30 Points, Five Assists, Five Rebounds on Friday

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's basketball team downed Sewanee, 86-59 by using a high-quality shooting percentage inside the Hangar Dome on Friday.
 
Millsaps (12-2, 3-0 SAA) stood out statistical categories with a 26-12 advantage in points from turnovers, while jumping out with a 14-4 margin in fast-break points. The Majors also totaled an impressive 33-4 difference in bench points over Sewanee (2-11, 0-2 SAA).
 
Junior Haley Franklin tallied her second 30-point game of the season and seventh in two seasons, while adding along five assists, five rebounds, shooting 11-of-15 from the field and 7-10 from the free-throw line.
 
Freshman Garin Freeman finished with 12 points, two assists, two steals and two rebounds. Senior Helena Roe netted 11 points with an assist, steal and rebound while freshman Tia Anderson pulled in 10 points along with three rebounds. Sophomore Elyse Warren also contributed to the team with nine points and seven rebounds in the victory.
 
In the first quarter, the Majors took an early 6-0 lead with a Franklin lay and free throw along with a Roe 3-pointer seven minutes in. The Tigers would claw back to close the deficit, trailing 15-13 after a closely contested opening quarter.
 
In the second quarter, the Majors bumped ahead with a 9-0 start with a Franklin driving layup, Emily Adams 3-pointer and Roe trey. With 2:11 remaining Roe would stay hot from distance to pull the Majors ahead by 11 at 32-21.
 
Franklin would send the Majors into halftime with a made jumper, leading 36-23 at intermission.
 
Sewanee fell further behind following second-half adjustments as Anderson and Warren closed the third quarter for the Majors, up by 23.
 
Millsaps later used a 64.3 shooting percentage (9-of-14) and 76.9 free-throw percentage (10-of-13) to stay ahead in the fourth. Sewanee started off with three points and brought the deficit down to 20 points in the final quarter, but the Majors pushed back and closed out an 86-59 triumph.
