JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's soccer team came up short to Belhaven, 2-0 in a non-conference matchup inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium on Tuesday night.
Junior goalkeeper
Emily Lozano recorded six saves and
Suzanna Busbee recorded a shot attempt against the Blazers.
Belhaven outnumbered the Majors, 18-1 in total shots and 7-0 in corner kicks.
In the fifth minute of the first half, Lozano recorded her first save against the Blazers.
However, Belhaven scored their first goal of the matchup with a kick inside the lower center of the soccer mouth in the ninth minute.
At the 34th minute, the Blazers would move ahead 2-0 as the soccer ball would go past Lozano's gloves.
The hosts looked to extend their lead seven minutes later, but would be met with a Lozano stop inside the box as she recorded her second save of the evening.
Millsaps would end the first half with a free kick opportunity before Belhaven would go into halftime out front, 2-0.
In the second half, the Millsaps defense kept the Blazers scoreless. Lozano gathered another pair of saves in the 56th and 61st minutes.
Belhaven would then miss a huge shot off the crossbar in the 63rd minute of action.
Busbee followed with her shot attempt that was blocked in the 72nd minute.
Lozano continued to keep the match in reach in the second half with additional saves in the 86th and 90th minutes.
The Blazers held and secured the 2-0 decision in a close matchup on Tuesday.
