Women’s Soccer Drops Home Matchup to Berry

Vikings Slide Past Majors, 2-0 on Friday Night

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's soccer team was bested by Berry College, 2-0 in a home conference matchup at Harper Davis Field on Friday night.

Sophomore Becca Quick recorded one shot on frame, while senior Anna Cuesta and sophomore Reese Brasseaux both registered shot attempts in the contest.

Berry (3-6-4, 2-2-1 SAA) topped the Majors, 23-3 in total shot attempts as junior goalkeeper Emily Lozano posted 10 saves in a terrific effort.

The Vikings out fouled the Majors with an aggressive style, 13-4.

In the fifth minute of the matchup, Berry missed the first chance to score early with a kick toward the left of the goal post.

In the 14th and 16th minutes, Lozano would record her first saves of the contest by disrupting her opponent's kick inside the box.

Lozano would alter two more shots in the 27th and 29th minutes to keep her conference foes from scoring.

At the 31st minute, Millsaps would stop the away team with another block before the visiting squad would score in the 37th minute with a shot to the lower right of the soccer goal.

Leading 1-0, the Vikings would hit the left goal post in the 40th minute.

Lozano would earn her sixth save of the matchup in the 43rd minute to wrap up the first half.

In the second half, Lozano would continue to halt the Vikings by securing another pair of saves in the 47th and 52nd minutes.

Berry would score from outside the box on a left foot shot the curled around Lozano to move ahead, 2-0 in the 56th minute.

Quick would look to score for the Majors at the 66th minute with a kick targeting the lower right of goal, but would be collected by the Viking keeper.

The visitors were stopped again in the 68th and 69th minutes before the Majors would have two final tries at goal. Brasseaux targeted a high shot in the 88th minute before Cuesta missed to the left with 35 seconds remaining. Berry held for the 2-0 decision.
