FLOWOOD, Miss. – The Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs combined for eight event wins, but were bested by Centenary College inside the GRIT Training Facility on Saturday.
Seniors
Kat Burns and
Catherine Passarelli were recognized at the meet as part of Senior Day. Dual-sport student-athlete and senior
Chloee Beebe will join the team once Millsaps women's soccer concludes their season.
Centenary won the women's competition, 125-81 and triumphed in the men's dual meet, 171-56. Millsaps not only won eight events, but the Majors tallied six runner-up showings and seven third-place performances.
Burns was stellar on her Senior Day, recording two event wins and a runner-up finish. She claimed victory in the 50-yard freestyle (26.82 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (58.63) as well as claiming second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.58).
Passarelli also excelled with a win in the 200-yard freestyle (2:15.31), placed second in the 200-yard IM (2:37.05) and was third in the 500-yard freestyle (6:04.81).
Graduate
Ginny Ray Clevenger provided the other event win for the women's team, besting the field in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.87). Freshman
Chloe Barnard was third in the same event (1:15.96).
Junior
Zoe Cowell posted a pair of quality times as well in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.85; second) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.54; third). The final top-three placer for the women's team was freshman
Samantha Himel in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.85; third).
Himel, Cowell, Passarelli and Barnard swam to victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:55.78), while Barnard, Burns, Clevenger and Himel secured second place in the 200-yard medley relay (2:03.54).
In the men's competition, junior
Ben Anderson was victorious in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.35) and 100-yard freestyle (50.42). His classmate
Andrew Meadows swam well in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.63; second) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:27.75; third). Fellow junior
Jackson Van Meter impressed with a third-place time in the 100-yard freestyle (54.59).
Millsaps men's swimming also competed strong in the relays. The quartet of Auzenne, Van Meter, Meadows and Anderson won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.89) and the same four swimmers were second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:49.40).
The Majors will next compete in the Delta State Invitational in Cleveland, Miss., Nov. 22-24.
